The AFRIYEA Golf Academy at Toro Club organized the inaugural Sustainability Junior Open 2024, a vibrant display of talent and environmental commitment. On a sunny January 5th, enthusiastic holiday students gathered to participate in this innovative golf event in Fort Portal.
Distinguishing itself from traditional tournaments, the Sustainability Junior Open began with a strong emphasis on environmental education. Participants and coaches were urged to keep the surroundings clean and safe for the environment, setting the tone for a day centered on both golf and ecological responsibility.
Isaiah Mwesige, CEO of AFRIYEA Golf Academy, highlighted the influential role golf can play in promoting positive change amid global climate challenges. The academy aims to lead efforts in using golf for social transformation, teaching values of integrity, honesty, sportsmanship, and sustainability. Mwesige stressed the importance of safeguarding the natural world and instilling environmental stewardship in the younger generation.
Patrick Baguma, Chairman Emeritus of Toro Club and Founder of a prominent environmental organization in the Rwenzori region, commended the academy and Toro Club for collaborating to nurture a new generation of golfers.
Victor Kalenzi, proprietor of FINS MEDICAL UNIVERSITY, expressed pride in supporting the initiative to shape young individuals, introducing positive competition and teaching accountability through golf.
