Joseph Cwinyaai was the only Ugandan to make the cut after round two in the Africa Amateur Championship at Leopard Creek. After concluding day one with a score of +2 (74), the national team captain could only manage a +7 (79) but still secured a spot beyond the cut. However, Sekibejja and Nsubuga were not as fortunate, missing the cut. Nsubaga shot 161, while Sekibejja posted a score of 163 after two rounds of golf.
Meanwhile, Altin van der Merwe continued his rich vein of form by firing a superb bogey-free 7-under 65 to take the lead.
The 27-year-old, who last week won the Golf RSA International Amateur after emerging victorious in a dramatic play-off, holds a one-shot advantage over countryman Ivan Verster at the halfway mark of the inaugural championship on a ten-under-par total of 134.
The South African got off to a fast start with back-to-back birdies on the opening holes and then picked up another shot on the 4th. His round sparked into life again at the 10th with another birdie before finishing strongly with successful birdie putts on Holes No. 13, 16, and 18.
Overnight leader Matthew Bramford slipped down the leaderboard after a 2-over 74 to finish the round in fourth place at 5-under, while top-ranked player Christiaan Maas carded a 3-under 69 to remain in the hunt on four-under.
