For nearly three years, a documentary titled “Origin: The Story of the Basketball Africa League” has been in production and will feature big names such as Barack Obama, Steph Curry, and J. Cole as it explores the world of basketball in Africa.
The film, produced by the production and distribution company Fremantle, will highlight the significance of basketball in Africa and its impact on the continent’s future. Prominent figures like former NBA player Joakim Noah, Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri, and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will also be featured.
Barack Obama, who has been involved with NBA Africa, will talk about the importance of sports in Africa’s development. J. Cole will share his experience playing in the first Basketball Africa League tournament, and Commissioner Silver will discuss the league’s vision.
The documentary will explore the relationship between America and Africa, showcasing the Basketball Africa League as a cultural bridge. It will delve into the stories of key individuals involved in the league’s creation, from players and coaches to visionary leaders.
The project, overseen by Oscar winner Fisher Stevens and Nigerian filmmaker Akin Omotoso, aims to entertain audiences with its portrayal of the BAL’s journey.
