The Uganda women’s cricket national team, the Victoria Pearls, have set their sights on victory against Zimbabwe after an impressive start to the All-Africa Games.
Securing a decisive win over Kenya by 6 wickets in their opening match, the team has gained momentum in the inaugural cricket event at the games.
Assistant coach Deus Muhumuza emphasized the importance of maintaining focus despite their initial success. “We take the win, but there are areas of concern, for example, around the temperament of the bowlers and batters,” Muhumuza stated.
In preparation for the tournament, the Victoria Pearls faced Zimbabwe in India, securing a victory. Drawing from their previous success, Muhumuza expressed confidence in the team’s ability to replicate their performance.
“If we stick to the instructions and follow the same process, we shall take the day,” he affirmed.
A win against Zimbabwe will make Uganda’s chances of reaching the semi finals more realistic with a game against Rwanda to play.
