Preparations are in high gear with only four days left to the 2024 Absa KH-3 7 Hills Run. The run, under the theme ‘Run flFor Her’ will take place this Sunday March 17 at Kololo Independence Grounds.
As part of the preparations, Absa Bank Uganda and NBS Sport today conducted a kit handover ceremony today at Next Media Park.
Participants in the run will navigate the picturesque seven hills of Kampal with proceeds going towards ensuring access to education for the girl child.
The event, encompassing distances of 5km and 21km, anticipates the participation of thousands of runners, including a contingent of elite athletes led by Joshua Cheptegei, the world record holder in both the 5000m and 10000m events.
Joe Kigozi, General Manager of NBS Sport, highlighted the significance of the 2024 Absa KH-3 7 Hills Run in supporting educational initiatives for girls.
“This impactful run aims to engage every Ugandan in shaping our society. As NBS Sport, we understand the power of sports and its ability to drive positive change. Viewers can anticipate live coverage starting from 6 am, gaining insight into the purpose behind this event,” remarked Kigozi.
Billy Bisanga, Head of Client and Digital Banking at Absa Bank Uganda, disclosed further details about the run.
“It presents an opportunity to empower the girl child, with over 53% facing challenges in completing primary education. Noteworthy prizes await top performers, including a land title courtesy of Bakayima Estates for the fastest female participant,” shared Bisanga.
Gerald Okwera, representing Partners Kampala Hash House Harriers, urged individuals to participate in this year’s edition.
“As a running club comprising nearly 1000 members, we are deeply committed to running and societal impact. With over 300 registrations already secured, we encourage everyone, even non-runners, to purchase kits and support the cause,” emphasized Okwera.
Kits are available for purchase at select Absa bank branches, priced at shs 30,000 for regular kits, shs 35,000 for timed runners, and shs 100,000 for VIP kits, with registration currently open. The run will commence with an aerobics session at 6 am, followed by the official flag-off.
