Libya’s weightlifter Ahmed Abuzriba experienced a dramatic moment during the men’s competition in the 102kg category, clean and jerk event. After an impressive performance in the snatch category, where he secured second place with a total of 153 points, Abuzriba collapsed following his second lift in the clean and jerk, lifting 189kgs. Volunteers rushed to assist him immediately after the lift. Explaining the incident, Abuzriba attributed his collapse to the fatigue caused by fasting on the second day of Ramadan. He stated,
“Since it’s Day two of Ramadan, I have been fasting, which left me feeling extremely tired without eating.
Although I had prepared well, unfortunately, I collapsed. I am grateful to God for my achievement, even while fasting.”
Despite the setback, Ahmed Abuzriba’s performance was remarkable, earning him second place in the men’s 102kg category with a total of 342 points, securing a silver medal for his country. In the same category, Egypt’s Ahmed Sayed Ashour claimed the gold medal with an impressive total of 351 points, while Nigeria’s Abayomi Adeyemi secured the bronze with 341 points.
