Road to Paris 2024: Organisers Say Lessons Learned from 2022 Champions League Final

Christophe Dubi, the Olympic Games Executive Director, has said that significant lessons were learned from the organizational challenges encountered during the 2022 Champions League final held in Paris. Dubi emphasized that these insights have been instrumental in fortifying preparations for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.

Assuring stakeholders and fans alike, Dubi underscored the implementation of robust measures to preempt a recurrence of similar issues. Key areas of focus include heightened security coordination and enhanced crowd management protocols.

The disarray witnessed during the 2022 final, characterized by malfunctioning ticketing systems, security lapses, and instances of post-match unrest, precipitated delays and jeopardized the safety of attendees. While an independent review likened the Paris ordeal to the Hillsborough disaster, it notably acknowledged the absence of fatalities.

Dubi elucidated on the challenges encountered in Paris, notably the eleventh-hour venue relocation and concurrent construction endeavors. Amid deliberations concerning the opening ceremony along the River Seine, apprehensions lingered regarding potential security vulnerabilities.

Despite conflicting speculations regarding alternative ceremony venues, Dubi reaffirmed the commitment to staging the event along the iconic River Seine. Addressing concerns regarding the water quality for aquatic events, organizers assured diligent efforts to ensure suitable conditions.

In defense of Olympic ticket pricing, which faced criticism from certain quarters, Dubi emphasized the spectrum of price points available, drawing parallels with other entertainment offerings. Furthermore, efforts are underway to facilitate widespread ticket distribution, encompassing dynamic pricing models and last-minute releases, aimed at enhancing accessibility for all segments of the audience.
