NBS Sport’s Nicole Apio’s Inspiring Story Featured at AIPS Awards Gala in Barcelona

NBS Sport journalist, Nicole Apio had her remarkable story showcased at the prestigious International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Awards held in Santa Susanna, Barcelona. Her narrative formed part of the association’s “100 stories by 100 young reporters” initiative, highlighting the next generation of sports journalism.

Apio’s compelling piece delved into Uganda’s journey at the Olympics, intricately weaving the nation’s history at the Games, its medal haul, and offering insights into the upcoming edition in Paris. Her diligent research and insightful analysis painted a vivid picture of Uganda’s sporting endeavours on the global stage.

Reflecting on the significance of her story being showcased, Nicole Apio expressed profound gratitude, stating, “First and foremost, I am grateful to God for this milestone. I am just a girl from the slums of Acholi quarters who made it to NBS Sport and now my story aired in Barcelona.”

Notably, Apio’s journey to this recognition traces back to her participation in the 30th edition of the AIPS Young Reporters Programme in 2019, where she honed her skills and passion for sports journalism.

The awards gala celebrated the outstanding contributions of 33 journalists, including Kenya’s Linda Ngari for her expose on a Ponzi scheme perpetrated by a UK-registered company in Kenya.

The AIPS Awards Gala is as a platform to honour excellence in sports journalism and to recognize the impactful storytelling that transcends borders and inspires audiences worldwide.
