City Oilers Return to Winning Ways Following BAL Nile Conference

City Oilers Basketball Club bounced back from a challenging run in the BAL Nile Conference, securing a crucial victory against Power and Our Saviour in their return to domestic action.

Having faced a series of setbacks in the Nile conference, including five defeats in six matches, the Oilers were determined to turn the tide as they returned to action in the National Basketball League.

In their first game back on the court, the City Oilers showcased their resilience and determination, clinching a convincing victory over Power Basketball Club with a final score of 81-67. The game, held at the MTN Arena in Lugogo on Saturday May 3, 2024, witnessed stellar performances from key players on both sides.

Isaac Afidra led the charge for Power Basketball Club with an impressive 19 points, while Tonny Drileba spearheaded the City Oilers’ offense with 15 points. The battle under the boards saw Clinton Omondi and Taariq Julaam Tendi Powell shining for Power Basketball Club, while Ivan Muhwezi dominated the rebounds for City Oilers.

In the subsequent showdown against Our Saviour Basketball Club on Sunday May 5th, the City Oilers continued their resurgence with a resounding 71-47 victory. Allawi Ssenkubuge emerged as the standout performer for the Oilers, delivering a stellar all-around performance with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists, earning an impressive index of 26.

Despite a valiant effort from Our Saviour, led by Henry Ssebagala’s 12 points and 4 rebounds, they were unable to contain the relentless onslaught from the City Oilers. Ssenkubuge’s dominance on the boards, coupled with solid contributions from his teammates, ensured a commanding victory for the Oilers.

With these back-to-back wins, the City Oilers have reignited their momentum and are third in the National Basketball League standings with 25 points, two behind leaders Namblazers but with 2 games in hand.
