The JT Jaguars and JT Lady Jaguars basketball clubs have announced a shs 500m annual sponsorship with Goldmine finance in a deal that will run for the next five years.
The Jeff Teya Nanyenga owned franchises were founded in 2021 and are based in Kira with focus on uplifting the community through sports.
The sponsorship is set to boost the club’s welfare with provision for facilitation of the teams qualify for regional and continental tournaments.
At an unveiling dinner held last evening at Golden Tulip hotel Kampala, guest of honor state minister for sports Hon Peter Ogwang, national council of sports chairman Ambrose Tashobya, FUBA vice-president in charge of administration Hudson Ssegamwenge were among the invited guests who witnessed the significant agreement.
In his remarks, Ogwang commended private sector companies that have invested in sports saying, “Sports is a driver of multinational businesses through such partnerships, adverts and direct funding. Basketball is one of the most desired sports with huge corporate crowds and I commend Goldmine finance for choosing the right sport.”
Club president Jeff Teya Nanyenga says the club is focus on long term development.
“We are dealing with young people so we focus on the education of our players. We have more than 100 kids at Kira high with players like our captain Victor Bwana having come through the set up.”
“We have land with plans for an indoor arena. We currently have two courts but we plan to increase that to four. The plan for Jaguars started 10 years ago and we have already acquired over 100 acres of land. All this is strategic for sports,” Nanyenga added.
Goldmine finance managing director Allan Tayebwa reflected on the partnership saying, “We expect performance from the teams and wins, positions and qualification will determine the amount they get. We want the teams to win and we have put cushions in the contract with additional rewards involved,” noted Tayebwa.
The JT Lady Jaguars currently sit seventh on the women’s log with the JT Jaguars fifth in the men’s standings.
