The Captain’s Bell tournament serves as an annual tradition where the newly elected captain hosts members for a tournament while also unveiling the new committee.
Taking the helm as the new captain is Paul Rukundo, who assumed office in March, succeeding Emmanuel Wamala. Rukundo will be supported by Owachi Jerry as the vice captain, Emmanuel Wamimbi as the vice secretary, and Walter Tuhahirwa as the treasurer.
Addressing attendees at the 19th hole ceremony, which marked the culmination of the tournament, Rukundo reflected on the event’s rich history and its enduring significance.
“For over 70 years, the Captain’s Bell Tournament has brought together exceptional players, colleagues, and friends,” Rukundo shared, as quoted by Sports Nation. “Our community has thrived, thanks to the steadfast support of partners like Absa Bank Uganda. We deeply appreciate their commitment to elevating the sport of golf in Uganda.”
In response, Absa Bank’s Managing Director, Mumba Kalifungwa, emphasized that the tournament holds greater significance beyond mere competition.
“For Absa, this tournament represents more than just a contest; it embodies community,” Kalifungwa affirmed. “It’s about nurturing an environment where talent can flourish, and we are honored to continue our partnership in this endeavor.”
