Veteran Frank Nsubuga to Cap 27-Year Career with T20 World Cup Appearance

With a career spanning 27 years, Cricket Cranes right-handed batsman Frank Nsubuga is set to realize a dream held by every cricketer.

The 43-year-old, who marked his national team debut in 1997, will be part of the 15-man squad representing Uganda at the 2024 ICC T20 Cricket World Cup, scheduled for June 1-29 in the United States and West Indies.

Growing up, Nsubuga played several sports, including hockey, badminton, lawn tennis, handball, table tennis, and volleyball, before he eventually settled on cricket.

Having played for ACC, Wanderers, Tornado, Aziz Damani, and KICC over the years, the off-spin bowler brings key experience to the side.

He reflects on the task ahead: “Playing at the World Cup when I am about to retire is something exciting for me. I have been putting in the yards, so it’s the hard work that has led me here,” Nsubuga stated.

Nsubuga believes playing at the Cricket World Cup will inspire future generations. “The world will know about Ugandan cricket, but it will also see the country take the game deep into the villages for its growth,” he noted.

Regarding his career highlights, Nsubuga shared some of his best moments: “My best moment was playing against Kenya here and my catch against Collins Obuya. Also, qualifying for the World Cup was very good for the group,” he said.

He attributes his cricket longevity to veteran player and coach Sam Walusimbi and the late John Nagenda for shaping his career from a tender age. Nsubuga will be the oldest player at this year’s World Cup.
