Second-Quarter Surge Propels UCU Canons Past Our Savior

The UCU Canons secured a narrow 64-58 victory against Our Savior in a tightly contested game at the YMCA Arena. The match saw a strong start from both teams, but the Canons managed to pull ahead thanks to consistent scoring across the quarters, highlighted by a dominant second period where they outscored Our Savior 22-5.

Leading the Canons, Peter Sifuma played a crucial role with 9 points and an impressive 15 rebounds, earning him a game index of 18. Kayiira Joel and Lwabaga Ibanda each contributed 12 points, with Joel also adding 7 rebounds to his tally.

For Our Savior, Henry Ssebagala was the top scorer with 18 points, while Moses Mugisha added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Despite their efforts, the team struggled particularly in the second quarter, which ultimately made the difference in the game.

The Canons displayed superior field goal efficiency, shooting 36% compared to Our Savior’s 30%. They also dominated in rebounds, pulling down 50 against Our Savior’s 46.

Although both teams committed 14 turnovers, UCU’s ability to convert key opportunities proved decisive. The Canons’ defense held strong in the closing moments, with Kevin Kasobya securing a crucial defensive rebound in the final seconds to seal the victory.

With this win, the UCU Canons are fourth on the log with 30 points, 3 behind leaders Namblazers. Our Saviour, on the other hand are seventh with 29 points.
