Record Prize Money Announced as Uganda Makes T20 World Cup Debut

The 2024 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will feature the highest prize money in the tournament’s history. Scheduled to conclude at Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29, the winners will take home at least $2.45 million along with the coveted trophy.

The runners-up will receive a minimum of $1.28 million, while the losing semi-finalists will each earn $787,500. In total, the prize pool for the tournament stands at $11.25 million.

Teams that do not progress beyond the Super 8s will receive $382,500 each. Those finishing in ninth to twelfth place will be awarded $247,500 each, and the teams ranked thirteenth to twentieth will get $225,000 each. Additionally, each team will earn an extra $31,154 for every match they win, excluding the semi-finals and final.

The tournament, the largest ICC T20 World Cup to date, will be held over 28 days across nine venues in the West Indies and the USA, comprising 55 matches. This year’s format includes 40 first-round matches, with the top eight teams advancing to the Super 8s. Four teams will then qualify for the semi-finals, which will take place in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, culminating in the final in Barbados.

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice commented on the event’s significance, stating: “This event is historic in so many ways, so it is fitting that the prize money reflects that. Hundreds of millions of fans around the world will be entertained by the players in what we’re hoping to be an out-of-this-world event.”
