The stage is set for the U18 FIBA Zone Five qualifiers, as Uganda prepares to host the tournament from Sunday, June 9th to 14th at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.
This highly anticipated event will see ten nations compete for a chance to participate in the FIBA Africa U18 Championships in Johannesburg, South Africa, this August.
Among Uganda’s representatives, the Junior Silverbacks are determined to make a significant impact in the competition.
Speaking to NBS Sport, Silverbacks Head Coach Mike Segar emphasized the team’s commitment to avoiding the mistakes made in the 2022 tournament.
Joel Rugette a player for the Silverbacks is confident ahead of the tournament.
“We are more than ready to go, and we are among the best teams Uganda has,” he stated.
The Junior Silverbacks are keen to impress on their home turf, with Coach Segar focused on leading his team to victory. The team boasts a strong dynamic and a wealth of talent, positioning them as formidable contenders in the tournament.
Ten countries have confirmed their participation in the week-long event. Uganda will be joined by Kenya, Somalia, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Eritrea, Burundi, Ethiopia, and Sudan. The champions of this series will earn a spot in the FIBA Africa U18 Championships.
