JT Lady Jaguars Edge Out UCU Lady Canons in Nail-Biting Finish

The JT Lady Jaguars narrowly defeated the UCU Lady Canons with a final score of 58-56 in a thrilling National Basketball League (NBL) Women’s 2024 match held at MTN Arena.

The game was closely contested throughout, with both teams showing resilience and determination. The Lady Jaguars led from the start, finishing the first quarter 17-9. However, the Lady Canons closed the gap in the second quarter, narrowing the deficit to 27-23 by halftime.

The third quarter saw the Lady Jaguars extending their lead to 45-32, but the Lady Canons mounted a fierce comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring 24 points to the Jaguars’ 13. Despite the late surge, the Lady Canons fell short by two points as the final buzzer sounded.

For the UCU Lady Canons, Tracy Namugosa and Hajara Najjuko each scored 10 points, while Bridget Aber led with 7 rebounds. Tracy Namugosa and Prosper Anyine contributed 2 assists each.

On the JT Lady Jaguars side, Ruth Letaru topped the scoring with 11 points, and Sarah Ageno dominated the boards with 15 rebounds while also leading in assists with 5. Key moments included a critical steal by Bridget Aber with just six seconds left on the clock, but a subsequent turnover by the Lady Canons allowed the Jaguars to hold onto their slim lead.

Both teams displayed strong defensive skills, with the Lady Canons recording 11 steals and 9 blocks compared to the Jaguars’ 10 steals and 2 blocks. Shooting accuracy proved to be a challenge for both teams, with the Lady Canons shooting 27% from the field and the Lady Jaguars slightly better at 32%. Free throw shooting also played a role, with the Lady Canons converting 70% of their attempts compared to the Lady Jaguars’ 62%.
