Victoria Pearls Edge Zimbabwe in Kwibuka Women’s T20 Final

In a nail-biting finish, the Victoria Pearls clinched the 2024 Kwibuka Women’s T20 title by defeating Zimbabwe by 2 runs. The Victoria Pearls set a modest target of 81 runs, finishing their innings at 80 for 8 in 20 overs. Despite a valiant effort, Zimbabwe were restricted to 78 runs, falling short by a whisker.

The highlight of Uganda’s innings was Prosscovia Alako, who scored 24 runs off 26 balls, supported by Rita Musamali with 15 runs off 17 balls. Zimbabwe’s bowlers, led by Christine Mutasa and Kudzai Chigora, who took two wickets each, kept a tight lid on the scoring, with Uganda posting a total run rate of 4.00.

Chasing a target of 81, Zimbabwe struggled against a disciplined Ugandan bowling attack. Janet Mbabazi delivered a standout performance, claiming 5 wickets for just 10 runs, earning her the Player of the Match accolade.

Concy Aweko provided crucial support, taking 2 wickets for 17 runs. Zimbabwe’s top scorers, Chiedza Dhururu with 22 runs off 26 balls and Loryn Phiri with 27 runs off 43 balls, could not steer their team to victory. The game remained in balance until the final over, but Uganda’s precise bowling and sharp fielding sealed the win.

The victory meant Uganda finished the tournament unbeaten, winning their fourth Kwibuka title.
