Tanzania’s Pendo Laizer led her team with a standout performance, scoring 14 points and securing 19 rebounds. She was closely supported by Elizabeth Laizer, who contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds. Rwanda’s efforts were led by Emlyne Iragena Mahoro with 16 points and Rachel Gikundiro who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Rebecca Cyuzuzo dominated the boards with 18 rebounds, adding 7 points to her tally.

The game was a back-and-forth battle with both teams displaying strong defense and strategic plays. Rwanda’s shooting was less efficient, hitting only 26% from the field compared to Tanzania’s 38%. Despite this, Rwanda managed to stay within striking distance throughout the game.

Key moments in the final period included a missed free throw by Rwanda’s Liliane Ingabire that could have tied the game and forced overtime. Instead, Tanzania held their ground and secured the win with a final score of 70-69.

Rwanda had several opportunities to take the lead in the last moments, including a missed three-pointer by Emlyne Iragena Mahoro and a missed free throw by Liliane Ingabire. A crucial offensive rebound by Rebecca Cyuzuzo kept Rwanda’s hopes alive, but it was not enough to overcome Tanzania’s resilient defense.

This match was part of the qualifiers for the FIBA U18 Women’s AfroBasket, with both teams looking to secure their place in the tournament.
