In a historic achievement for Ugandan table tennis, Joseph Sebatindira has been ranked first in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Under-11 World Rankings. The nine-year-old prodigy amassed 265 ranking points, coupled with an impressive 86% win ratio, setting a new milestone for the nation.
Sebatindira’s ranking marks the first time a Ugandan has reached the top position in any ITTF world ranking category. Following closely behind him are Spain’s Ladimir Mayoroz with 258 points and Austria’s Louis Fegerl with 155 points.
Sebatindira’s rise to prominence began last year when he clinched a gold medal at the World Table Tennis Championship in Egypt. Remarkably, this victory came during his international debut.
This year, he was the sole African representative at the World Table Tennis Championship, where he advanced to the quarterfinals in the U13 category and triumphed in the U11 category.
Uganda Table Tennis Association President Robert Jjagwe extended his congratulations to Sebatindira, highlighting the accomplishment as evidence of the excellent training programs at Nakasero Table Tennis Club. Jjagwe also praised Sebatindira’s coach, Alvin Katumba, for his pivotal role in the young athlete’s development and success.
