Kenya, Zambia, and Nigeria have been confirmed as Africa’s representatives for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2024, set to be held in the Dominican Republic from October 16 to November 3, 2024.
Nigeria, a seasoned contender in this tournament, punched their ticket to the World Cup by overcoming Liberia with a 6-1 aggregate victory. The Flamingos, having participated in six of the previous seven editions, secured their place by winning the first leg 4-1 and concluding with a 2-0 triumph in Abuja.
Zambia, making their return to the global stage after a decade, demonstrated their prowess by defeating Morocco 3-1 on aggregate. Despite a goalless draw in Morocco, the Copper Princesses’ earlier performance was sufficient to see them through to the finals.
The biggest surprise of the qualifiers came from Kenya, as the Harambee Starlets made history by qualifying for their first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Kenya’s remarkable journey saw them triumph over Burundi with a 5-0 aggregate victory, clinching their maiden World Cup ticket.
These three teams will join a diverse lineup of competitors from around the world, including powerhouses like England, Brazil, and the United States, as well as other strong teams from Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
