Wehat Foundation’s Photo Exhibition and Golf Event to Raise Funds for Education

The Wehat Foundation has announced the launch of a significant charity event aimed at helping girls complete their education. The primary goal of this initiative is to address the high dropout rates among girls caused by the lack of school fees.

Founded by Executive Director Musa Abdul Rugumayo, Co-Director Collins Kasujja Suubi, and photojournalist Faith Ariho, the foundation’s efforts span five regions, including Kampala, Jinja, and Mbarara.

The initiative will begin in Kampala, with the aim of raising 150 million UGX. These funds will be invested in schools, with Gango Infant Primary School in Kampala, which serves 270 pupils, 70% of whom come from underprivileged families, being a primary beneficiary. The foundation hopes to support 20 pupils for a year if the fundraising is successful.

The event is scheduled for July 5, 2024, and will feature a golf tournament in partnership with the Uganda Golf Club to kickstart education funds for underserved communities.

This initiative, which began in 2020, focuses on providing support for underprivileged children’s education. During a press conference held at the Uganda Golf Club offices, it was announced that the charity golf tournament will follow four guiding principles: welfare, education, healthcare, and advocacy.

The event will attract participants from various sectors, including members of the Uganda Golf Club, the business community, and the government. Players will be charged a fee to participate, and there will also be a photo exhibition to raise additional funds.

Photojournalist Faith Ariho expressed her optimism about the foundation’s progress, sharing an inspiring story from earlier this year.

“Earlier this year, my team and I visited Kisoro with Monica Molly, a girl who had dropped out of school in her first year. I hope that this opportunity will allow Molly to continue her education. Together, Molly and I captured the beauty of Uganda, including its wildlife and landmarks, and these photos will be exhibited at the golf club throughout the week,” Ariho said.

The photo exhibition will feature a variety of subjects, including birds and gorillas. The photos will be sold to raise funds, with all proceeds going towards supporting education.
