Euro 2024 Semis: England, The Odd Man Out

The 2024 European Championship is set for mouthwatering semifinals after Spain, France, England, and Netherlands advanced.

At this stage, each of the quartet is eyeing a spot in the final hoping to go all the way and clinch the championship but England is the odd man out in the latter ambition. Find out why.

There is a total of six Euro trophies among the quadruple but none belongs to the Three Lions, they are shared amongst Spain, France and Netherlands.

La Roja have won three titles, the most of any other country on the continent, tied with hosts Germany whom they eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Spanish triumph came in 1964 and back to back in 2008 and 2012 against Soviet Union, Germany, and Italy, respectively.

On the other hand, Les Bleus have two championships to their name won against their semifinal opponents Spain in 1984 and Italy in 2000.

Didier Deschamps’ charges avenged Portugal in the quarterfinals, a side that defeated them in the 2016 final.

Meanwhile, Oranje touched their only Euros Cup in 1988 beating Soviet Union and they will be playing in the semifinals for the first time since 2004 after ejecting stubborn Turkey.

Garry Southgate’s men are in the last four for the second straight tournament and they will be hoping to make it to the final and lift it for the first time having lost the 2020 final to Italy at Wembley as hosts.

As Spain entertains France of Tuesday, July 9, England will tussle it out with Holland the following day for a place in the final on Sunday, July 14.
