Jane Asinde has admitted that she has big shoes to fill after taking over from Flavia Oketcho as Gazelles’ captain.

The above development was made public knowledge on Sunday morning ahead of the women’s national basketball team’s trip to Germany for a training camp.

“Excited and a little bit nervous to step into the leadership role,” Asinde opened up to the FUBA media.

“I feel like Flavia’s shoes are too big for me to fill but with the help of the managers, staff, my teammates, and God, I feel like I will be able to be a good leader,” she noted.

Asinde will be assisted by JKL Lady Dolphins’ Hope Akello and their new roles begin immediately
during the high-performance camp in Frankfurt.

“This camp will help us to prepare for the AfroBasket qualifiers next year and we are looking forward to creating chemistry and working with our new coaches,” Asinde stated.

Unlike Akello who plays in the Castle Lite National Basketball League, Asinde has featured for UTEP Miners Women’s Basketball Team in the United States of America.

It is worth noting that Oketcho has been playing basketball for two decades now winning a dozen of the women’s national basketball championships and a host of Most Valuable Player awards.

The Gazelles were invited to Germany by Women’s Basketball Bundesliga outfit FC Nottingen and the training camp will happen for 10 days from Monday, July 15 to Tuesday, July 25.

FUBA intends to prepare the team for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Qualifiers due in February next year.
