The Castle Lite National Basketball League defending champions, City Oilers and 2022 losing finalists Namuwongo Blazers became the first two teams in the men’s division to reach the semifinals of the 2024 Playoffs on Wednesday.
After taking the advantage in game one of the best-of-three series against Kampala Rockets and Our Saviour, respectively, the two giants completed the job in game two at the Lugogo Arena.
A comfortable 91-69 victory in addition to another agreeable 75-52 win over the weekend was enough for City Oilers to cruise on to the last four.
In another quarterfinal match played on the same day, Namblazers fought hard to edge Our Saviour 86-79 in a closely tussled out contest.
It was yet again a tight battle when the Namuwongo-based side defeated the minnows 73-61 last week.
After their triumph in the quarterfinals, Oilers and Namuwogo await the victors in the other quarterfinals between UCU Canons versus KCCA Panthers and KIU Titans against JT Jaguars, respectively.
Canons and Titans have the advantage from game one thanks to 80-70 and 60-51 victories, apiece.
It is worth noting that the Women’s Playoffs were halted as some players left for national duty as part of the Gazelles’ invitational tour in Germany.
