Junior Silverbacks captain, Tejan Joel Rugette, is set to make waves on the international basketball stage as he prepares to represent Uganda at the prestigious Basketball Without Borders (BWB) camp.
The 20th edition of the camp will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from August 3rd to 6th, 2024.
This marks a significant milestone for Ugandan basketball as Rugette becomes the latest talent to be selected for this elite program.
The camp, a joint initiative by the NBA and FIBA, has been a breeding ground for future basketball stars, with 41 former campers currently gracing the NBA courts.
As the 16th time South Africa has hosted the BWB Africa camp, the country continues to be a hub for basketball development on the continent. Senegal, Angola, and Egypt are the only other nations to have previously hosted the event.
Rugette will be among 29 other boys and 30 girls from over 20 African countries who will have the opportunity to learn from current and former NBA, WNBA, and FIBA players.
The camp provides a platform for young athletes to enhance their skills, knowledge, and understanding of the game while fostering a global basketball community.
Since its inception in 2003, the BWB Africa camp has produced remarkable results. A total of 13 former campers have been drafted into the NBA, showcasing the program’s effectiveness in identifying and nurturing top talent.
