Nadal, a 14-time French Open champion, might have played his last match at the iconic venue. As he exited the court, the crowd rose to applaud, acknowledging his illustrious career.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz continues his pursuit of a gold medal in singles, having advanced to the quarter-finals where he will face American Tommy Paul.

Novak Djokovic also made headlines by reaching the quarter-finals, becoming the first player in the modern era to do so in singles at four different Olympics.

Despite his past Olympic struggles, Djokovic remains focused on bringing a medal to Serbia, having secured a 7-5 6-3 victory over German Dominik Koepfer.

The day’s matches also saw Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti upset seventh seed Taylor Fritz, and Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime defeat fourth seed Daniil Medvedev. Defending champion Alexander Zverev advanced, while Andy Murray’s Olympic journey continues.

In the women’s singles, Angelique Kerber’s career came to an end with a narrow 6-7 (4) 6-4 7-6 (6) loss to China’s Zheng Qinwen. Kerber, a three-time Grand Slam champion, retired at the age of 36 after returning to the tour following the birth of her daughter.

Slovakia’s Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova continued her surprising run by defeating Barbora Krejcikova, ensuring her place in the semi-finals. Top seed Iga Swiatek, aiming for her 25th consecutive win on Paris clay, advanced after Danielle Collins retired due to injury.

The women’s doubles saw top seeds Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula eliminated in the second round by Czech duo Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova, adding to the day’s upsets.
