Mbappe Scores on Debut as Real Madrid Clinch Record Sixth UEFA Super Cup Title

Kylian Mbappe made a dream debut for Real Madrid, scoring his first goal for the club as Los Blancos defeated Atalanta 2-0 to win a record sixth UEFA Super Cup title on Wednesday night in Warsaw.

The French superstar, who joined Real Madrid this summer after a long-anticipated move from Paris Saint-Germain, wasted no time in making his mark.

Mbappe struck in the 68th minute, sealing the victory after Fede Valverde had broken the deadlock earlier in the second half.

The triumph solidifies Real Madrid’s position as the most successful team in UEFA Super Cup history, with six titles to their name.

The match, played at a packed Stadion Narodowy, saw Real Madrid start strongly, with the new attacking trio of Mbappe, Vinícius Junior, and Rodrygo immediately putting Atalanta under pressure.

However, the Italian side, who were making their first appearance in the Super Cup after winning the Europa League against Bayer Leverkusen last season, held their ground in the first half.

Atalanta even nearly took the lead when Eder Militao deflected Marten de Roon’s cross onto his own crossbar, but Real Madrid managed to survive the scare.

In the second half however, it was Madrid’s relentless pressure that finally paid off.

Vinicius Junior, dazzling the Atalanta defense with his dribbling skills, set up Valverde for a simple finish in the 59th minute.

The goal shifted the momentum entirely in Madrid’s favour, and it wasn’t long before Mbappe added his name to the scoresheet.

Latching onto a pass from Jude Bellingham, the French forward fired a powerful shot into the top corner, sending Madrid fans into raptures.

Speaking after the match, Mbappe expressed his delight at making such a significant impact on his debut.

“It was a great night,” he said. “I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, to play with this shirt, with this badge, for these fans. There’s no limit to what we can achieve together.”

The victory also marked a milestone for Real Madrid’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, who has equalled the club’s former coach, Miguel Munoz, with a record 14 titles at the helm of Los Blancos.

– 2014
