The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially confirmed that all 16 clubs in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League have successfully passed the club licensing exercise ahead of the 2024/25 season.
This comes after the clubs have successfully met the minimum requirement of having 18 players approved on the FUFA Connect System.
Last Friday, August 9, FUFA provided an update indicating that only Kitara and KCCA had fully secured their licenses, six clubs had been granted provisional licenses, while 8 clubs were still pending approval.
The federation had emphasised the importance of this licensing process, setting Thursday, August 14 as the deadline, and warning that failure to comply could lead to exclusion from the upcoming season, set to commence on Friday, September 13, 2024.
In a positive turn of events, FUFA’s latest update revealed that Vipers SC and URA FC have also achieved full licensing status, joining KCCA and Kitara.
Both Vipers and URA had initially not met the minimum requirement of 18 approved players in the FUFA Connect System, which is crucial for their participation in the league.
Vipers have now successfully registered 20 players, while URA has met the threshold with 18.
The other six clubs that were awaiting approval; Express FC, UPDF, Wakiso Giants, Maroons, and newly promoted sides Police FC and Mbale Heroes, have now been granted provisional licenses.
Earlier, defending champions SC Villa, BUL, NEC, Bright Stars, Mbarara City, and newly promoted Lugazi FC had also received provisional licenses.
These clubs, together with the other six, are required to fulfill additional best practice criteria by the start of the second half of next season to secure their full licenses.
