Uganda’s Cherop and Kiprop Win Bronze Medals at World U20 Championships

Ugandan runners, Charity Cherop and Kenneth Kiprop, have brought home bronze medals from the World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

The prestigious competition showcased some of the world’s finest young athletes.

In the women’s 5000m, Cherop secured third place with a personal best time of 15:25.02. Her outstanding performance was overshadowed by Ethiopian runner Medina Eisa, who defended her title with a championship record time of 14:39.71.

Meanwhile, Kiprop also claimed a bronze medal in the men’s 5000m. He finished the race with a time of 13:41.73, narrowly missing out on silver. The gold medal went to Kenya’s Andrew Kiptoo Alamisi, who crossed the finish line in 13:41.14.

Uganda is part of the 134 countries participating at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, from August 27-31, 2024.

The event, hosted at the Estadio Atletico de la Videna, will see over 1700 athletes competing.
