Historic Rugumayo Roots For 2024 Uganda Golf Open Pro Title

Uganda’s professional golfer Ronald Rugumayo has set his sights on the Johnnie Walker Professional Open 2024 after a successful Absa Pro-Am Golf Tournament held on Tuesday at Entebbe Golf Club.

Rugumayo, virtually Uganda’s finest professional golfer, made history in February this year by becoming the first Ugandan to make the cut in the DP World Tour.

He will be battling for the Pro honors against defending champion Dismas Ndiza from Kenya and the 2022 champion Robinson Chinhol.

The duo also participated in Tuesday’s Pro-Am before professional action that teed off this Wednesday at Entebbe golf course.

“Personally I have my targets, I have my game plan. I am not playing anyone, but it is me against myself,” noted Rugumayo

“I am rooting for a Ugandan to win but at the end, the best will take it,” he added.

Over 100 professional golfers from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire and Nicaragua are battling for the UGX150M Kitty (40,000 USD).

Evah Magala who makes a debut in the main open is among the three female professionals who are part of this year’s championship.
