City Oilers have extended their incredible streak in the Men’s National Basketball League. The Oilers clinched their record 10th consecutive NBL title at Lugogo on Wednesday.
They achieved the above feat at the expense of KIU Titans, a side they also defeated to win their ninth championship in 2023.
A 64-51 victory on Wednesday night ensured that Andrew Tendo’s charges swept Julius Lutwama’s side 4-0 after winning game one, two, three, and four of this best-of-seven series final playoffs.
It was Oilers allover the court from tip-off and despite keeping within close range maintaining it as a two and three point game in the first and second quarter, respectively, the men in blue began to stride away after the interval.
Titans gave Oilers a run for their for their money in the closing stages of the previous three encounters which wasn’t the case this time around.
Oilers did it in style becoming the first team to sweep an opponent in a final in a decade.
The last time a team swept an opponent in a final was in 2014 when the Oilers themselves swept Power once again 4-0 to win their second NBL title.
It’s only the global coronavirus pandemic that halted their dominance in 2020 and 2021.
Oilers’ Titus Lual was named both the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Best Defensive Player of the 2024 campaign.
