Uganda’s First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Museveni, has expressed profound grief following the tragic death of Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei.
In a heartfelt message, she condemned the violence that led to Cheptegei’s passing and extended her condolences to the bereaved.
The First Lady described the news of Cheptegei’s death as “deeply disturbing,” underscoring the impact of the tragedy on the nation. “The news of our daughter, Rebecca Cheptegei’s tragic death due to domestic violence is deeply disturbing,” she said in a statement.
Hon. Museveni extended her heartfelt condolences to the athletics community, Cheptegei’s family, friends, and the entire Ugandan nation.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the athletics community, her family, friends, and the entire nation on the loss of our Olympian,” she added.
In her message, the First Lady offered her hopes for strength and comfort for Cheptegei’s family during this difficult time. “May her family find the strength to cope with this loss and may her soul rest in Eternal peace,” she concluded.
