Uganda Cranes midfielder Taddeo Lwanga and his club side APR have bowed out of the CAF Champions League.
The Rwanda Premier League champions fell to Egyptian outfit Pyramids.
The latter defeated the former 3-1 in the second leg of the second round of the preliminary round in Cairo on Saturday.
This followed a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Kigali last week, giving Pyramids a 4-2 aggregate score and advancing to the group stage.
Interestingly, APR scored first in this contest through Dauda Yussif Seidu as early as the 10th minute.
Mohamed Chibi, who scored an own goal in the first leg, restored parity for the hosts in the 45th minute for a 1-1 stalemate at the break.
Former Young Africans forward Fiston Mayele put Pyramids in the lead for the first time in the 63rd minute.
It is worth noting that it was Mayele’s late equaliser in the 83rd minute that denied APR the victory in Kigali last week.
Pyramids were awarded a penalty in the 92nd minute and Karim Hafez stepped up and converted and there was no way back for APR.
The 30-year-old Ugandan Lwanga was withdrawn in the latter stages of the game and was replaced by Alioum Souane.
