The African football community is in mourning following the tragic death of 20-year-old Dominic Frimpong, a rising star for the Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea.
The President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, issued an official statement on Tuesday expressing his profound sadness and extending heartfelt condolences to Frimpong’s family, his teammates, and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following an incident that has sent shockwaves through the global sports industry.
The young winger lost his life during a harrowing armed robbery attack on the Berekum Chelsea team bus as the squad was traveling back from a competitive league fixture.
In a letter addressed to GFA President Kurt Okraku, Dr. Motsepe shared his personal grief over the senseless violence, noting that it was with “profound sadness” that he learned of the attack that claimed the life of the promising 20-year-old.
He urged the GFA to pass on his and CAF’s deepest sympathies to the friends and family of the athlete, reaffirming that the continental governing body stands firmly with the Ghanaian football community during this “sad and painful period.”
