The Baby Victoria Pearls continued their impressive form at the 2024 ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup Qualifier Africa, securing a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Kenya in their second group stage match.
Uganda’s bowlers once again dominated, restricting Kenya to a modest total of 37 runs in 13.5 overs.
Immaculate Nandera and Irene Mutonyi led the charge, taking two wickets each and conceding just 19 runs combined.
Lona Anyait also made a significant contribution, claiming three wickets.
In response, Uganda’s batters made light work of the target, reaching 38 runs for the loss of one wicket in just 8.1 overs.
Patricia Timong remained unbeaten on 11 runs, while Asumin Akurut contributed 3 runs.
The victory means that the Baby Victoria Pearls have won both of their opening matches in the tournament, keeping them firmly on course for a semi-final place with the greater goal of securing a place at the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia next year.
With momentum on their side, the team will be confident of their chances as they look to continue their winning streak when they face hosts Rwanda next.
The Baby Victoria Pearls’ next challenge will be against Rwanda on September 25th. A win in that match would guarantee their place in the semifinals as group leaders.
