The Baby Victoria Pearls continued their dominant run at the 2024 ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup Qualifier Africa, securing a comprehensive 46-run victory over hosts Rwanda in their final group stage match.
Uganda’s batters put on another impressive display, posting a total of 102 runs in 19.3 overs.
Malisa Ariokot led the way with 30 runs, while Asumin Akurut contributed 30 runs. The hosts’ bowlers struggled to contain the Ugandan batting lineup, with Umukundwa Nasira being the most economical bowler with figures of 1 for 16.
In response, Rwanda’s batting lineup failed to get going, being bowled out for 56 runs in 19.4 overs.
Uwimana Ruth was the only batter to reach double figures with 14 runs. Uganda’s bowlers were once again on top, with Immaculate Nandera and Asumin Akurut taking two wickets each.
With the victory, the Baby Victoria Pearls completed a perfect group stage campaign, winning all three of their matches and finishing as the top team in the standings.
The Baby Victoria Pearls will now face Zimbabwe in the semifinals on Saturday while Rwanda will take on Nigeria.
The final will be played on Sunday, with the winner earning the right to represent Africa at the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia next year.
