The event kicked off with a bang as teams made their grand entrance with vibrant dance routines, some even accompanied by famous artistes.

Each team, limited to two National Basketball League (NBL) players and required to field at least one female player, showcased impressive skills, ensuring an even and thrilling competition.

Eight teams; Team Sera, Team Wazee, Team Luol Deng Foundation, Team Afande, Team Agatha, Team Comfort, Team Obleng and Team Ba’fani, are participating in this year’s edition.

However, three teams; Team Ba’fani, Team Wazee and Team Agatha stood out on opening night, each going undefeated and grabbing maximum points.

Team Ba’fani, led by the National teams manager Albert Ahabwe and powered by Gazelles star Lydia Babirye, delivered a particularly notable performance.

They dominated Team Luol Deng Foundation with a 29-22 victory and then narrowly edged Leticia Awor’s Team Comfort 20-19 in a nail-biting game that had fans on the edge of their seats.

Team Agatha, led by JKL Lady Dolphins’ Agatha Kamwada cruised past Team Comfort 32-18 before defeating Team Obleng 26-11, and Team Wazee edged Team Luol Deng Foundation 31-30 and then overcame Team Afande 22-13.

Meanwhile Team Sera and Team Obleng secured one win each on opening night.

Team Sera, led by the multi-talented sports journalist and A1 Challenge captain Sarah Precious Yaweh, opened their campaign with a 25-19 win over Team Afande before losing out 31-22 to Team Obleng.

Team Afande, Team Comfort and Team Luo Deng Foundation had a disappointing night, each suffering two losses on opening day.

It wasn’t just about the game on the court; the dazzling showmanship of the players and the presence of top celebrities transformed the arena into a pulsating party.

The festive atmosphere, with blaring music, enthusiastic cheers, and a sense of camaraderie, was a true celebration of sports and entertainment coming together.

The tournament will unfold over four legs, with the next leg scheduled for next Friday, October 4, at the same venue.

The final leg will feature the semi-finals and the championship game, where the ultimate FNL champion will be crowned.

Notably absent from this year’s competition is last year’s champion, Team Imani, leaving the title wide open for a new champion to emerge.
