Agatha Kamwada, JKL Lady Dolphins’ standout Small Forward, played a pivotal role in leading Team Park to a flawless victory at the 2024 KT Rach Ladies Basketball Tournament, held at YMCA Wandegeya.
Team Park secured their place at the top, winning all six games, including a hard-fought 25-19 victory over Team Zainah in the final.
Kamwada’s outstanding performance saw her crowned the tournament’s top scorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Her success at the KT Rach Tournament adds to what has been an exceptional year, both on and off the court.
In addition to her tournament triumph, Kamwada was part of the JKL Lady Dolphins team that defended their Women’s National Basketball League title, and she also graduated with a master’s degree in human resource management from Victoria University.
For their victory, Team Park took home UGX 3 million in prize money, while runners-up Team Zainah were awarded UGX 2 million. Third-placed Team Siima received UGX 1 million.
Other individual honours included Kamwada’s club teammate Becky Longom, who was named Defender of the Tournament, and Mercy Batamuliza of JT Lady Jaguars, who was recognized as the Rebounder of the Tournament.
While Kamwada starred for Team Park, Longom and Batamuliza competed for outgoing champions Team Siima.
The tournament, which featured 10 teams, also included exhibition matches and wheelchair basketball games.
In a special exhibition match, the Rugby Select Team narrowly lost 15-11 to the Celebrity/Media Team, led by NBS Sport’s Sera Yaweh.
In the wheelchair basketball game, Team White defeated Team Blue 6-2.
The event was graced by Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, State Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development, who served as Guest of Honor.
He expressed admiration for the wheelchair basketball players, stating, “Disability is not inability, and these athletes have the potential to become great basketball players.”
He also praised the organizers for their efforts in empowering women through sports.
Renowned singer Irene Ntale provided entertainment at the event, which was organized by former National Basketball League player Kuliva Trannie Racheal, who previously played for UCU Lady Canons, KCCA Leopards, and JKL Lady Dolphins.
With Kamwada leading the way, Team Park’s victory at the KT Rach Tournament marks yet another milestone in her already impressive 2024, cementing her status as a rising star in Ugandan basketball.
