Ugandan motorcyclists are poised to make a return to the international stage as they head to Morocco for the highly anticipated Motocross of African Nations (MXOAN) Championship.
The event, scheduled to take place from October 25th to 27th, marks Uganda’s re-entry into the competition after a 11-year absence.
A contingent of 27 riders, representing the country across four categories – MX 50 to MX Vets – will battle it out against over 200 competitors from 10 nations, including South Africa, Kenya, and Zimbabwe.
Leading the charge is the defending champion in the MX2 category, Stav Orland. With a steely resolve, Orland has expressed unwavering confidence in the team’s ability to secure victory.
“This year, there’s no other option but to win,” he declared.
Arthur Blick Junior, a former team captain and current team manager, echoed Orland’s sentiment.
“The Ugandan team has undergone rigorous training and is ready to take on the challenge of the championship,” he stated. “We’re going to Morocco with the sole purpose of bringing home the title.”
Back in late September, the Ugandan racers were trained by FIM instructor Dearden Andre at Garuga and Busika in preparation for the tournament.
