Perez Admits Struggles in 2024 Ahead of Home Grand Prix

Red Bull’s Sergio Perez has openly acknowledged a difficult 2024 season as he prepares for his home grand prix in Mexico City this weekend.

The Mexican driver, who has historically performed well on his home track, finds himself significantly behind teammate Max Verstappen in the championship standings.

“I know I’ve had a terrible season, a very difficult one,” Perez admitted. “It started really well, but it’s been really, really difficult.”

Perez has only managed one podium finish since the Chinese Grand Prix and is eager to turn his fortunes around in front of his passionate home crowd.

He hopes a strong performance in Mexico can salvage his season and provide a much-needed boost.

“For me, if I get a strong result, it can definitely change my season massively in terms of personal feelings. So I’m really up for it,” he said.

The two-time podium finisher in Mexico City expressed his desire to replicate past successes and create unforgettable memories with his family.

“I think that moment will stay with me forever, having my son up there with me on the podium, watching me. It’s something that I hope he remembers forever,” Perez shared.

The Red Bull team has also faced challenges in recent months, losing the lead in the constructors’ championship to McLaren. Perez believes his individual struggles mirror the team’s overall performance.

“I feel that I’m in the same boat as the team. We’re working towards solving it. We found a big issue in Monza. So after Monza, we thought we were finding directions. We’re heading in the right direction,” he explained.
