Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali has urged Max Verstappen and fellow drivers to show respect for the sport as debate rages over new hybrid power unit rules.
Verstappen, a four-time champion, has slammed the regulations and warned he could quit in 2027 if they remain.
Domenicali said the Dutchman “understands the bigger picture” but must recognise the weight of his words.
Talks between the FIA, teams and drivers are under way, with changes expected before the Miami Grand Prix on 3 May.
Safety concerns grew after Oliver Bearman’s Suzuka crash, highlighting risks from speed differences under the new system.
“The regulations obviously need to be improved,” Domenicali admitted, while stressing F1 must protect its “jewel” as the season resumes following cancellations in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
