The Ugandan Ladies Golf Team has embarked on an intensive training camp at Lugazi Hills Golf & Country Club as they prepare for the upcoming All-Africa Trophy Championship in Agadir, Morocco.
The team, comprising of seasoned golfers Peace Kabasweka, Meron Kyomugisha, Martha Babirye, and rising junior star Winnie Musuya, will undergo rigorous training under the guidance of coach Flavia Namakula and team manager Gloria Mbaguta.
The All-Africa Trophy, a prestigious biennial event, brings together top female golfers from across the continent.
This year’s championship, scheduled to take place from November 28th to 30th at Tazegzout Golf Club, promises fierce competition from strong golfing nations like South Africa, Kenya, Namibia, Egypt, Morocco, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Zambia.
Uganda’s team is brimming with talent and experience. Kabasweka and Babirye, former Uganda Open champions, will bring their big-match temperament to the table, while Kyomugisha, a consistent performer, will provide solid support. Musuya, a promising junior golfer, will add youthful exuberance to the team.
“We aim to put our best foot forward and achieve a strong finish at the All-Africa Trophy,” said team manager Gloria Mbaguta. “The training camp at Lugazi will help us fine-tune our skills and prepare mentally for the challenges ahead.”
After the Lugazi camp, the team will shift their focus to Kigo Golf Club for further intensive training before departing for Morocco on November 25th.
They will have two practice rounds at Tazegzout Golf Club to acclimatize to the course conditions before the tournament commences.
Uganda’s best performance at the All-Africa Trophy was a fourth-place finish in 2018. The team is determined to improve upon this result and make a significant impact on the continental stage.
As Uganda’s ladies team prepares to take on the challenge, they will be joined by Tanzania, whose team includes familiar faces like Iddy Hussein Madina, Neema Olomi, and Hawa Wanyeche. The competition is set to be thrilling, with top-quality golf on display.
