Uganda Cranes Eye Victory in Brazzaville Showdown

The Uganda Cranes reached Brazzaville safely for their final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification match against Congo Brazzaville, scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, at 7 PM EAT.

The team departed in the early hours of Sunday morning, determined to end their qualification campaign on a high note.

Head coach Paul Put named a strong 26-man squad for the decisive encounter, which will see the Cranes aiming to cement their place at the top of Group K.

Uganda currently sits second in the group with 10 points, trailing leaders South Africa by just one point.

Ahead of the trip, the team held an indoor recovery session on Saturday, focusing on physical and mental readiness for the high-stakes match.

Team captain Khalid Aucho emphasized the squad’s commitment to securing a positive result.

“We understand the importance of this game and are committed to giving our best to ensure we end the campaign on a high note,” Aucho stated.

The traveling squad includes rising star Shafik Nana Kwikiriza, who rejoins the team after prioritizing his Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams during the South Africa game.

The squad features experienced players like goalkeeper Isima Watenga, defenders Bevis Mugabi and Timothy Awany, midfielders Bobosi Byaruhanga and Taddeo Lwanga, and forwards Rogers Mato and Steven Mukwala.

Uganda secured qualification for AFCON 2025 last week, ahead of their penultimate match against South Africa, which they lost 2-0.

For Uganda to top Group K, they need to win and hope South Africa drops points against South Sudan.
