John Oduke Tennis Tournament Returns

The second edition of the John Oduke Captains Tournament is set to return to Lugogo Tennis Complex this weekend, November 23rd and 24th, 2024.

Organized by the Uganda Tennis Association in collaboration with the legendary John Oduke, the tournament promises to be a thrilling spectacle for tennis enthusiasts across the country.

With a record-breaking 137 participants, the event will feature a diverse range of categories, including Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Corporate Events.

Players of all ages and skill levels will gather to showcase their talent and compete for coveted titles.

John Oduke, a former national tennis star and current national coach, expressed his pride in the tournament’s growth and impact on the sport in Uganda.

“It’s an honor to be part of this event and to witness the progress of Ugandan tennis. The association’s commitment to organizing such a significant tournament while I’m still involved is truly a blessing,” he said.

Alvin Bagaya, the Secretary General of the UTA, echoed Oduke’s sentiments, highlighting the tournament’s role in fostering a strong tennis community.

“These two days will be more than just competition; it’s a celebration of our tennis family. We invite everyone to come together and appreciate the growth of the sport in Uganda,” he remarked.

One of the tournament’s most anticipated players is defending champion Simon Ayala.

Having dedicated countless hours to training, Ayala is confident in his ability to retain the title.

“The competition will be fierce, but I’m determined to defend my title. I’ve been training hard, and I’m ready to give it my all,” he stated.
