Empowering Girls Through Basketball: FUBA’s Transformative “Her World, Her Rules” Campaign

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has announced its upcoming girl-focused basketball camp under the Her World, Her Rules initiative, scheduled for November 23, 2024.

The event will take place at St. Agatha Girls’ School in Kakore, Rubanda District, and aims to empower over 60 young girls between the ages of 6 and 16 through basketball and life skills training.

The Her World, Her Rules campaign is an internationally recognized initiative by the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) designed to increase women’s participation in basketball.

This year’s event is being implemented with support from partners such as iCARRé Foundation, Hoop Dreams, and Edu-Aid Africa.

Breaking Barriers Through Sports

The camp, branded “Welcome to My World,” seeks to inspire and equip participants with skills that build their confidence and tackle gender inequality in sports.

Speaking about the initiative, Rachael Ainamasiko, Commissioner for Women’s Basketball at FUBA, said:

“This project creates transformative experiences for young girls by introducing basketball to the region and promoting sports as a choice. We aim to inspire these girls to reach their full potential.”

Empowerment Beyond Sports

The camp is not just about basketball—it’s a platform to nurture talent, foster leadership, and create inclusive spaces.

Participants will benefit from a range of activities, including: Basketball training and coaching sessions, referee and coach development programs, inspirational and motivational workshops, and distribution of sports equipment and community engagement initiatives.

The event aligns with FUBA’s 2024 theme, “Sports as a Choice,” highlighting the role of sports in personal growth and community transformation.

Moreover, plans are underway to introduce basketball programs to schools in Rubanda next year, ensuring long-term inclusivity in sports.

A Step Toward Inclusion

This year’s event is poised to showcase the power of sports in transforming lives.

From developing skills to promoting equality, the camp will emphasize that inclusion in sports is not just an option but a necessity.

With this groundbreaking initiative, FUBA continues to pave the way for a more inclusive future in Ugandan sports.
