From Blanks To Brilliance: Okello Edges Ahead in UPL Scoring Battle, Golden Boot Contender?

Vipers’ Allan Okello has climbed to the summit of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) top scorers’ table, thanks to his sixth goal of the season during the Venoms’ 2-0 triumph over URA on Friday at the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo

The win also sent Vipers to the top of the league standings with 20 points.

Okello’s milestone came in the 65th minute, when he expertly nodded in a cross from captain Milton Karisa, who had opened the scoring earlier in the 56th minute.

This marked another impressive outing for the Uganda Cranes midfielder, solidifying his place as a key player in the league.

The 23-year-old’s scoring streak began on matchday five, when he converted a penalty against Wakiso Giants.

He followed up with braces in consecutive matches, scoring twice against Police in a 2-1 win and adding another double from the spot in a 3-1 victory over Mbarara City.

Despite drawing a blank against his former side KCCA in a 1-1 draw before the international break, Okello’s latest goal reinforces his position as the league’s leading scorer.

Chasing Okello closely are five players tied on five goals each, including his teammate Milton Karisa.

Other challengers for the golden boot include Mbarara City’s Seiri Arigumaho, URA’s Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Express’ Samuel Ssenyonjo, and Villa’s Charles Lwanga.

Vipers’ next game is a home fixture against Kitara, offering Okello another chance to extend his scoring record and further cement his dominance in the league.
