Held from November 21st to 23rd, 2024, at the newly revamped Lugazi Hills Golf & Country Club, the tournament witnessed a thrilling display of skill and sportsmanship.
The 20-year-old golfing prodigy, hailing from Lugazi Hills Golf Club, showcased exceptional talent and unwavering determination, carding an impressive score of 213 over the three-day event.
This remarkable achievement earned him a substantial cash prize of UGX 2,080,000, a prestigious trophy, and a gas cylinder.
Akena’s journey to golfing glory is truly inspiring. Starting as a young caddie at the age of 12, he diligently assisted golfers, carrying their clubs and retrieving golf balls from water hazards.
Recognizing his potential, Captain Nanduvathussery Joseph Paul offered Akena the opportunity to play, igniting a passion that would shape his future.
Through relentless hard work and dedication, Akena has steadily climbed the ranks of Ugandan golf. He has already secured 16 career trophies, including four overall gross titles, and is now eyeing the coveted #1 world ranking.
