Ugandan female boxers made history at the 2nd Africa Military Games 2024, securing the nation’s first-ever gold medals in women’s boxing at the prestigious event.
Erina Namutebi and Joyce Kugonza, representing the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), delivered outstanding performances, showcasing their exceptional talent and determination.
Namutebi, a prominent member of the national boxing team known as the Bombers, and Kugonza, a rising star in the Uganda Boxing Champions League, faced stiff competition from Nigerian opponents.
Kugonza battled Pamilerin Akintayo, while Namutebi squared off against Blessing Oben. Both Ugandan fighters emerged victorious, winning their respective matches on points and solidifying their dominance in the ring.
