Tanzanian President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has lauded Simba SC for their spirited 2-1 victory over Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien in a nail biting CAF Confederation Cup encounter on Sunday.
The President’s message of congratulations came after Uganda Cranes striker Steven Mukwala made an impactful contribution, coming on at halftime to help the Lions secure a hard-fought win at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
“Congratulations to the Lions Club for the victory in the Confederations Cup game in Africa against CS Sfaxien. You continue to give Tanzanians happiness and entertainment by flying the flag of our country internationally, while we continue to remain united in work, peace, unity, stability, and solidarity. I wish you all the best in your next games,” said President Samia.
Simba SC faced early adversity when Hazem Haj Hassen put Sfaxien ahead just three minutes into the match. However, Simba responded swiftly, with Denis Kibu equalizing four minutes later.
Mukwala’s introduction at halftime added much-needed energy to the team as they mounted a relentless attack. The persistence paid off when Kibu netted the winner in dramatic fashion, scoring nine minutes into added time.
The win propels Simba to third place in Group A with six points, keeping their hopes alive in the competition. They now turn their focus to the return fixture against Sfaxien in Tunisia on January 5, 2025.
