Kitara will face Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC in an international friendly to mark the grand opening of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya County on January 2, 2025.
Kitara are currently ninth in the Uganda Premier League while Gor Mahia are third in the Kenya Premier League. The friendly will act as a crucial preparation for both clubs ahead of the second round of their local leagues.
The newly built stadium, a FIFA-standard facility with a seating capacity of 15,000, promises to transform Western Kenya’s sports scene.
Kenyan President William Ruto is expected to officiate the opening of the stadium that has been designed to host top-tier competitions.
The stadium also features an eight-lane athletics track, VIP lounges, floodlights, and a secure perimeter.
While Gor Mahia currently host their games at the Machakos Stadium, it remains to be seen whether they will shift their home ground to the new Jaramogi Oginga Odinga stadium.
